 What Is Our Music Video Idea

After researching various music genres, I discovered that the most iconic music videos showcase originality and cultural representations. Focusing on folk and country music, I noted their dedication to heritage, traditions, and local aesthetics in wardrobe, locations, and mise-en-scene. My team and I decided to maintain this authenticity in our music video, emphasizing Pakistani music and culture.

We have decided to choose the music "Parizad" which represents Pakistani music well, with singer Syed Asrar Shah's beautiful vocals. The Pakistani music industry focuses on lyrics and instruments, which will be key. We will use music interludes for dramatic shots in the music video, aiming for a story that inspires. This song also serves as an OST for the hit drama "Parizad" on Hum TV, which depicts the struggles of an outcast dealing with "racism."

This style closely matches the Bollywood music industry. Our music video will promote a Pakistani artist in our native language, showcasing a man's struggle in Pakistani culture, and originality, mainly represented through traditional wardrobe like shalwar kameez and maxi dresses. It will reflect today's Pakistan without Western inspiration.

Inspired by Parizad's story, we are creating a narrative-based music video with dramatic shots and intense scenes. We aim for highlighted visuals, a depressed aura represented through metaphorical performance-based scenes, and a video that emotionally connects viewers.

The concept originated when my team and I thought that we needed to do something different, something unique. So we started looking at the representations in the Pakistani culture and we got stuck at this certain representation which is quite highlighted in our overall society, that is that a man should be strong, a man should not cry and a man should not be weak. There's just so much support for women, so much respect for women, but a man goes through these various things in life, those various struggles, that he never really shares, even with his mother, father, or even wife; he has to just be the protector and stay silent about all of the burden on his shoulders. So accordingly, my team and I decided that we will be choosing this topic.

 So, we started thinking of a narrative that would influence this. We came across many inspirations along the way, the specific one being Parizad's own OST, which represents his struggles through a life full of discrimination and racism. He went through poverty, he went through discrimination, he went through rejection and found himself in his fullest form in the end. We also wanted to break that narrative where everything ends with a happy ending. So we wanted to find a cliffhanger, perhaps, or maybe a shot that ends with the audience wondering what will happen now, wondering how it ends, wondering how this happened. So, we wanted to shock the audience in our music video. 

Overall, we are looking for something that represents a lot of effects that we can use, a lot of representations that we can use, and an art that can be represented metaphorically as well. So the music video's visuals overall turn out to be nice.

We are now thinking of going for this amazing storyline, which includes our main lead being this guy who goes through a very harsh and impactful youth. He goes through a traumatic childhood with his parents nearly getting divorced and his parents fighting, and then he gets kicked out of his house. We also show scenes such as his friends betraying him, his lovers betraying him, and him standing with a empty soul between a chaotic world without any hope or direction left in life. We want to show his struggles too, as being jobless, unemployed, and how that affects him. Betrayal, poverty, and all of these things are going to be added to our music video. This is the key theme, and our music video is going to revolve around those same ideas. We are going to prepare a timeline according to the song, and then our final narrative-based shot list will be ready in its timeline form. 

We look forward to our storyline and timeline, hoping our team can pull this off.
